Global Kindness is a map of real acts of kindness from around the world. This page explains what information we collect when you use it, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it plain and short.
Who we are
The Global Kindness Map is run by the Global Kindness team. You can reach us any time at globalkindnesshq@gmail.com.
What we collect
You can browse the whole site without giving us anything. If you choose to share a story, we collect only what you type or upload:
- your story title and the story itself
- the country you choose, and the city, town or state if you add one
- your first name, if you add one
- your Instagram, TikTok or YouTube handle, if you add one
- a photo you upload, or a link to a video
- the challenge you picked or wrote, and which nomination link you used (so we can build the chain)
Like most websites, our hosting providers record basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type in their server logs. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or analytics that follow you around the web.
Your browser also stores a few small items on your own device, for example to remember which stories you have already reacted to and the last story count you saw. These are not used to track you.
What becomes public
Once we approve a story, this is visible to anyone: the title, the story, your country and place, your first name (or “anonymous” if you leave it blank), your social handle if you added one, and your photo or video. The pin on the map is placed near the city or place you entered, or somewhere within the country if you did not enter one.
How we use it
- to review and show your story on the map and in the chains
- to connect chains of nominations between people
- to email us an alert when a new story is waiting for review
- to keep the site safe and stop spam
- to share approved stories on our own social channels, as covered in our Terms of Use
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who helps us run the site
We use a few trusted services. They process information on our behalf:
- Supabase stores stories, photos and chain data.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- MapTiler provides the map and turns the place you type into a map location, so the place text is sent to them.
- Resend sends us the alert email when a story is submitted. The email contains the story text.
- YouTube plays embedded videos. YouTube may set its own cookies when a video is played.
These services may store data on servers outside your country.
How long we keep it
Approved stories stay on the site until you ask us to remove them. Stories we do not approve are deleted. Technical logs are kept by our hosting providers for a short time under their own policies.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete your story, photo or handle at any time. Email us with a link to your story (use the Share button on it) and we will deal with it as soon as we can, usually within a few days.
Children
Global Kindness is for people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, please get a parent or guardian’s permission before sharing a story or photo. Please do not upload photos that show a child’s face unless a parent or guardian has agreed.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
